I want to get to get on my Soapbox for a minute… I saw a commercial on TV that just set me off…. The tagline was “Eat Your Way – Treat Your Way.” The product is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and intestines, Acid Reflux and esophageal problems.
Then the commercial has the nerve to have a Cartoonish Fireman propped up on the box intimating that this product can indeed put the fire out that one may feel after eating. No doubt that it can, but… The reason why I am so angry about this is because the invitation to eat any way you want and then to take this magic bullet is exactly the mind-set we need to run from permanently because food is not the only thing to be considered with digestive upset. How you handle Emotional imbalance in relation to the Stressors in Life play a huge part. When this is the case with that burning sensation, no little pill will make it go away. The only thing that will help is to do what Iyanla Vanzant suggests… Do Your Work! We will get to Emotional distress next time. However, when food IS the culprit, while it may sound like a good thing that the little pill can put out fire, in most cases it is the absolute worst tactic possible for problems like heartburn and acid reflux, because generally with these conditions, the stomach isnotproducing enough stomach acid. Taking these drugs will only WORSEN an acid reflux condition.
One of the primary concerns with prolonged usage is that reducing acid in the stomach weakens the primary defense mechanism for food-borne infections, which can increase the risk of food poisoning and also the risk of infection with C-Diff, which is a very harmful intestinal bacteria. So…If you’re taking an acid blocker, get on a lower dose sooner than later. Once down to the lowest dose, start substituting with Digestive Enzymes which are excellent in working with stomach acid to help break down food to nourish the entire body.
Here are a few of your questions and answers:
RainyDay on Instagramsays:
I am terrified to give up my little purple pills there is no way I can go back to feeling that fire I used to feel in my chest when I lay down.
Answer:
My dear… I hear you… Who wants to feel thaaat!!! The Chewable Digestive Enzyme DGL by Enzymatic Therapy puts out fire. Just 4-5 chewables before eating, while eating, or after eating will do the trick. AND … there are NO side effects nor contra-indications with medications. I have successfully gotten my mother off of the purple pills and she is permanently using DGL. What have you got to lose… try it.
David S. onFacebook says:
I like salad, but I don’t like to eat other veggies raw and I know that cooking the veggies depletes the enzyme power.
Answer:
You are so smart … that is correct… OVER cooking vegetables depletes their enzyme power. Since you don’t like raw veggies, try having at least one substantial salad meal per day made with a good hearty lettuce like organic romaine or Red Leaf, Kale or even Spinach. Ensure that your salad dressing is Organic so that it has no High Fructose Corn Syrup and eat up!
MJ on Twitter says:
I burp a lot after I have my faithful 2 cups of coffee and my chest burns. I’m not on meds but I’m thinking I may need them.
Answer:
Hiccupping or burping is definitely a sign of esophageal distress as well as dehydration. It is because coffee is one of the most acidic beverages on the planet. Imagine a large bowl with your 2 cups of coffee. Now pour water into the bowl until the coffee is no longer visible. How much water will you have to pour into the bowl until the water is clear? Well, in the body you would have to drink 32 cups of water to make your body look like it Never had one cup of coffee. This is also is true for drinking Pop. Are you willing to drink that much water to flush out one cup of coffee? And by drinking 2 cups of coffee daily now you need 64 cups of water. Are you willing to do that? Write me back and let me know what you have decided.

Two of my favorite docs of all time, Dr. Mercola and Dr. Perlmutter have teamed-up to discuss the raging epidemic of Alzheimer’s in this country and HOW it can be prevented and even reversed. I contend that your biography does NOT have to be your biology. The diseases that Mama and Daddy and Auntie and the Grandparents had does not have to be your fate. In fact you have an awesome opportunity to avoid the diseases that have run rampant in your family by avoiding the foods they ate. I really do believe that what we inherit from family members is not diseases but the eating habits that lead to diseases.
The Alzheimer’s epidemic can be easily traced to the war on Cholesterol and the indroduction of statin drugs. The low-fat diet craze was also a culprit in this disease running amuck in our society. Cholesterol is necessary for our brain function as the brain is made up of primarily water and Cholesterol. In this video interview with Dr. Mercola and Dr. Perlmutter, key dietary strategies are given to protect yourself from Alzheimer’s.

So… We are officially into Summer!! With the hottest month still ahead here are answers to some of your questions about Summer Safety, Sunscreen, Swimming and Shopping.
teenyweeny on Instagram asks:
I am a brown-skinned woman I love the sun and I do get sunburned. What is a good natural sunscreen I can use?
Answer:
It is a fallacy that dark-skinned people do not burn! It is important for you to protect your skin as well. I only agree with using sunscreens that are natural and ONLY after you have filled your Vitamin D Receptors after about 20-40 minutes and about 45-60 minutes for darker skinned people. When using sunscreens please choose natural options as many commercial sunscreens contain known contaminants. Re-apply after sweating and swimming.
Here are some options:
MissMarion from Twitter asks:I love to party on the deck but the flying bugs and ticks run me in the house. What is something natural I can use?
Answer:
It is important to keep yourself from being bitten by bugs while enjoying the outdoors. Citronella Candles are awesome to use on the deck! If you have an umbrella over the table spray down the cloth with a Bug Repellent you have mixed with water and an Essential Oil like Lavender, Neem, Peppermint, Eucalyptus… Bugs Hate the smell of essential oils.
.Spray yourself with the home-made Bug Repellent instead of traditional ones which contain DEET. Do not use products which contain this ingredient!! It is a known carcinogen.
.If bitten by a bug and it itches, make a Baking Soda Paste with water and put on the bite. This scratches the bite with minimal irritation and draws out the itchy-ness too.
.If a tick is found embedded in the skin or hair, using tweezers pluck out the tick and ensure there are no tentacles left in the skin. Wash the area with soap like a Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap and dab with Tea Tree Oil or open a Golden Seal Capsule to draw out toxins. Do NOT burn a tick off of skin… this is an urban myth!
Derrick B from FaceBook asks:
My family and I love to swim. We hit the pool in our yard every day it is hot enough to get in the pool. What are some safety tips?
Answer:
.Never Swim Alone! Even experienced or strong swimmers might need help
.Children should ALWAYS BE SUPERVISED
.Avoid drinking alcohol before or during swimming or while supervising children
.Re-apply homemade sunscreen every 2 hours
Avoid sunglasses because the sun needs to penetrate through your eyes, the only TRUE Vitamin D is the Sun and… it cannot penetrate, contacts, glasses. Sunglasses, nor the car window. We should all enjoy being outside during the day light. Vitamin D deficiency is higher than ever in the US largely in part of fear of Skin Cancer and an indoor sedentary lifestyle which… is generally under florescent lighting. Florescent lights suck the Vitamin D from the body. So, while there is plenty of sun high in the sky with warm temperatures, I congratulate you and your family for getting out and enjoying your pool together.
Theresa S from FaceBook asks:
I love to shop at street fairs in the summer but I don’t like to buy food items there because it is too much work to clean everything.
Answer:
You should DEFINITELY buy food from the fresh food stands!!! Support your local farmer. No Farms…No Food! I cannot emphasize this enough. The farmers job is to pick the food that morning to bring you the freshest selection possible. It is your job to clean it. A little dirt won’t hurt.
The Farmers Market will also have the local foods in-season. The strawberries did not have to come from across the world, receive irradiation, and be picked before they were ripe… they were grown in your area. This is priceless! If you are not growing your own food. Please, support your local farmer.
