Janine Coveny, my sister friend and former colleague from the entertainment business, has brilliantly and succinctly written this article on the passing of Michael Jackson. Janine has said EXACTLY what I have been unwilling to articulate. She, like myself had an ‘all access pass’ to most artists of our time because of our professional affiliations as entertainment journalists and producers. Janine, like myself, has had a front row seat to the back stages of the world. We have had a front row seat to witness the demise of Michael Jackson and although we sat in those seats right up front, we never got to touch him. Hence, we were not privy to access Michael when he was sooooo far out there. See, Janine and I are both the type of girls who would have said, “Ok Michael, that’s enough…come on back.”
I, like Janine are not at all surprised about his passing. In fact, we saw it coming.
Now as a Naturopathic Doctor, holistically I can pin-point when Michael veered toward danger…and it was when he stepped outside of the village that once made him whole. When any of us begin to remove ourselves from what centers us, we too are veering toward danger. What has helped to define us profoundly affects our physical, mental, and spiritual state.
As we watch the world mourn the death of Michael Jackson, I would only hope that everyone take a moment to Remember The Time when they felt most nurtured and loved. The monumental feelings of grief are so lingering in the air, that to me, I feel just like I did on 9-11. I was pregnant at the time and I was determined NOT to pass that grief on to my baby. So, I got off of my couch, turned off the television and the radio, got in my car, and drove to be with a close friend.
Guard your emotions during high stress times like these. Michael’s passing hurts like that of a family member. Help yourself handle the stress with doses of Bach Flower Rescue Remedy (I immediately drank almost half a bottle!).
The last thing I have to say on Michael’s death would actually be a question that only Joe Jackson can answer…Was it worth it?
