With a headline like this hopefully now parents will listen. The number one reason why young adults are not being admitted into the military is because they are too heavy. Health care providers everywhere – mainstream, holistic, and even school nurses – have been screaming,
“Your child is too fat!” Parents have not been listening.
When schools sent home letters to the parents about their children tipping the scales toward dangerous numbers, instead of curbing their child’s eating habits they wanted to sue school districts for calling their children fat. Putting the brakes on a child’s bad eating habits is going to be better for everyone in the long run. Childhood obesity is rampant and it sets into motion diseases that were once reserved for the elderly.
I am personally seeing teenagers presenting with the health issues of 30 year olds! So, what can we do:
1. The very FIRST thing that has to go is the idiot box…the television.
2. Insist that your child get exercise outside of school hours. Enroll them in karate, dance, horseback riding, or even a walking club.
3. Take away the Game Boy, X-Box, PlayStation, and anything else that promotes sedentary behavior.
4. Make sure that there is a fresh cooked meal every night at home readily available.
While this is a challenge, it is better for the health of EVERYone in the household.
5. Always have plenty of fruit and fruit salad to snack on instead of junk food.
6. Stop feeding the child a bowl of sugar that is masquerading as cereal. Use only real food.
Not only does this obesity issue threaten National Security but it also threatens the life of the children we love.
